Description
Originating in the city of Fano, the moretta is a typical Italian product created by mixing three liqueurs: rum, anise, and brandy.
Created to warm sailors before setting sail, it quickly spread throughout the country, becoming an official AIBES (Italian Bartenders and Supporters Association) cocktail in 2006.
It’s prepared by heating the mixture with a lemon zest, then adding a hot espresso very slowly, taking care not to mix it with the moretta.
It’s served in a classic smooth glass that reveals the three separate layers of foam, coffee, and liqueur.
Excellent as a dessert drink in place of coffee, but can also be used to enhance desserts, creams, or ice cream recipes.
